BSEC, ECO, SAARC, GCC, IOC, League of Arab States![]() Black Sea Economic Co-operation Pact:Based in Turkey, the BSEC is a forum for economic co-operation among the Black Sea littoral states and others in the region. Economic Co-operation Organisation:The ECO was setup in 1985 to promote regional economic co-operation among the non-Arab states of Western and Central Asia. Following the break-up of the Soviet Union,a number of former soviet republics joined. South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation:Formed in 1985 to improve co-operation among member states, the SAARC focuses mainly on economic development and technical issues. Gulf Co-operation Council:The GCC was established in 1981 as a forum of the conservative states of the Gulf to co-ordinate and develop their economic , political, cultural and security policies. Indian Ocean Commission:The IOC was created in 1982 to promote trade and economic co-operation in the region. The EU is the major donor, with most of money allocated to a series of projects supporting fisheries, maritime transport, tourism and the environment. League of Arab States:Formed in 1945, the function of the organisation is primarily diplomatic, and to desined to support and co-ordinate matters of common concern among Arab states. Historically, it has played a major role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. |
